Denmark vs France live streaming: Match preview

Group D climaxes with France coming up against Denmark at the Luzhniki Stadium.

France come into the game as favourites but will likely rest some key players with qualification secured. Denmark will arrive with the mission of avoiding defeat in order to secure qualification from the group.

It’s one of those games where you could imagine both teams having a gentleman’s agreement to play out a draw which would be mutually beneficial. A draw would secure top spot for France and qualification for the Danes. But in reality with World Cup, national and personal pride on the line you can expect to see two European nations slugging it out for the win.

Denmark

Denmark come into the game off the back of a disappointing draw against Australia. The Danish Dynamite, who are proudly ranked 12th by FIFA, hoped to secure their qualification against Australia. The steely draw against the Socceroos now means Denmark have to rely on a performance against one of the tournament favourites to secure passage.

Australia on the other hand will be up against a demoralised camp in Peru who are all ready eliminated against the tournament.

A surprising victory against France could even see them top the group, you can be sure that Denmark will be targeting such a prize. Danish coach Age Hareide believes any other approach is a dangerous mentality. “I know one point will be enough but that’s not a good way to start the match,” he said. “If you put that into your players’ heads there will be passiveness in the team and that’s not good.

Denmark will be without suspended Yussuf Poulsen who has been instrumental in their attack.

France

France arrive on the back of a tough earned victory against Peru. It was an immense moment for the squad as they look to rise up to the expectations placed upon them.

France are still unsure of their best team after a Giroud inclusion seemed to balance the side better.

Kante and Pogba in a midfield two thrived and Matuidi failed to add any real penetration but put in a shift. Deschamps is not looking to offer any favours to Denmark looking to instil a determination to win. “We are not going to give them a helping hand. Our goal is to guarantee first place and two results will allow that,” he said.

However with qualification secured, the French could indiscreetly take their foot off the accelerator as they look to rest key players for the knockouts looming. Paul Pogba, Blaise Matuidi and Corentin Tolisso all face risk of suspension and will likely be rested.

Olivier Giroud will likely start again after an impressive showing last time round. The centre forward has also bagged each of France’s last three goals against the Danes, most recently a double in a 2-1 victory in October 2015.
