Brentford are back in the top-flight after 74 years away.

The Bees last top-division season was 1946/47 when, on the final day, they lost 1-0 to Arsenal at Griffin Park and were relegated.

27,108 days later, fate has brought these two London clubs together again to kick off the 30th Premier League season.

Slightly more recently than that, Brentford finally secured promotion to the top-flight, beating Swansea City 2-0 in the Championship play-off final.

Ivan Toney opened the scoring with a penalty at Wembley, one of a record-breaking 33 goals he scored last season.

Over the summer, Thomas Frank has strengthened his squad in an attempt to bridge the quality gap between Championship and Premier League.

Kristoffer Ajer has joined, a fantastic centre-back from Celtic, as have midfielder Frank Onyeka from Midtjylland and Yoane Wissa, a forward from Lorient.

Of course, in their debut Premier league season, Brentford are one of the leading contenders for relegation but look like they do have the tools to stay up.

Heading 10.3 miles north-east, what will this season bring for Arsenal?

The Gunners have now finished eighth in back-t0-back seasons, last finishing that low in consecutive campaigns in 1977.

Arsenal have also failed to qualify for UEFA competition for the first time since 1995/96, losing in the Europa League semis to Villarreal in May.

This has its pluses and minuses; on one hand Mikel Arteta has free weeks which can be spent at the training ground, working on tactics.

On the other, ever league game is going to be even more forensically scrutinised, brining added pressure if results are poor.

Summer signings Ben White and Albert Sambi Lokonga, from Brighton and Anderlecht respectively, are likely to make their debuts here.

But, in more general, the fact Arsenal’s squad is almost the same isn’t at all exciting for fans.

Tthe Gunners face Chelsea and Manchester City after this so the pressure is on to claim three points in West London.

But, everything appears to be perfectly set up for a famous home win at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Prediction: Brentford 2-1 Arsenal

Alexandre Lacazette is looking to become the first player to score the season’s first goal for the third time having done so in 2017 and last years.

Brentford cane become only the seventh club to win their first ever match in the Premier League.

This is just the third time a Premier League match has been played on Friday 13th and the first for two decades.
