Everton’s European ambitions are still alive.

On Sunday afternoon, the Toffees beat fellow Europe chasers West Ham United 1-0 at the London Stadium.

In the first half, Ben Godfrey’s Xavi-esque through-ball found Dominic Calvert-Lewin who slotted home his 21st goal of the season.

That’s now back to back 1-0 away wins for Carlo Ancelotti’s side who ended April with a victory at Arsenal.

Despite this, the Blues remain eighth which is the first position which would not be good enough to secure European football.

However, they’re just one point behind Tottenham, two adrift of Liverpool and three behind West Ham.

Win this one, and they’ll be right back in the hunt.

Sandwiched in-between those two victories in the capital, Everton hosted Aston Villa and that went less well.

Goals from Ollie Watkins and then Anwar El Ghazi saw the Villans win 2-1 at Goodison just 12 days ago.

Then, on Sunday, Dean Smith’s side were beaten 3-1 by Manchester United at home despite taking the lead through Bertrand Traoré.

Watkins’ 89th minute red card, the second yellow of which was for diving, means he’s suspended for this one.

So, Villa have only won one of their last five and that was that victory on Merseyside.

So, they’ve slipped down to 11th.

Will Everton climb into the top seven with victory at Villa Park?

Prediction: Aston Villa 1-2 Everton

Aston Villa are looking to complete the league double over Everton for the first time in two decades.

Villa’s win at Goodison was just 12 days ago. If they won this one, it would be the second shortest period of time that one club has beaten another twice in the Premier League.

Everton have won their last five Premier League away games played on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.
