LONDON, ENGLAND – AUGUST 14: Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea celebrates with teammate Cesar Azpilicueta after scoring their side’s third goal during the Premier League match between Chelsea and Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on August 14, 2021 in London, England. (Photo by Eddie Keogh/Getty Images)

These are two great London rivals but they’re seemingly going in opposite directions right now.

So far this season, Chelsea have played two matches and everything has gone to plan.

First, as Champions League winners, they contested the UEFA Super Cup against Villarreal in Belfast.

It finished 1-1 and substitute goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was the hero, saving two spot-kicks.

Then, three days later, the Blues easily beat Crystal Palace 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Marcos Alonso opened the scoring with Chelsea’s 50th direct free-kick goal in Premier League history before Christian Pulisic doubled the lead not long after.

The U.S. international has now scored five times against Crystal Palace, one more than his next best tally which is against Trinidad & Tobago.

Then, in the second half, Trevoh Chalobah sealed the win with a rocket from 25 yards which brought the academy graduate to tears.

An all-round excellent day for Thomas Tuchel’s team so will they win again?

Well, new signing Romelu Lukaku could make his second debut for Chelsea having last played for the club in the 2013 UEFA Super Cup.

The Belgian striker has joined from Internazionale, for around €100 million, having scored 64 goals in two years with Inter, winning the Scudetto last season.

Will Chelsea start this season with another win?

In stark contrast, Arsenal supporters aren’t quite as optimistic about their side right now.

The Gunners kicked off their campaign last Friday night, slumping to a miserable 2-0 defeat at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette missed the match after positive Covid-19 tests; it’s unknown whether they’ll be available for this one.

New signings Ben White and Albert Sambi Lokonga did start against Brentford though with Nuno Tavares given a short cameo off the bench.

The best moment of the season, so far, for Arsenal came this Friday morning when it was announced Martin Ødegaard has joined from Real Madrid on a permanent basis.

The Norwegian wonder-kid won’t feature here though.

Given that Mikel Arteta takes his team to Manchester City next weekend, a result here would be most welcome as Arsenal look to get off the mark.

Will Chelsea run riot at the Emirates?

Prediction: Arsenal 0-3 Chelsea

Having won both meetings last season, and the 2020 FA Cup Final, Arsenal are aiming for four successive wins over Chelsea for the first time since 2004.

Chelsea though are unbeaten in ten league meetings with the Gunners on Sundays, winning eight of them.

The Blues are also looking to win five consecutive away London derby wins for the first time since 2005-06.
