Two sides experiencing entirely contrasting starts to the Ligue 1 season will meet here as Strasbourg are aiming to get their first win of the season ahead of playing hosts to eighth-placed Rennes at the Stade de la Meinau.
We are now eight games into the Ligue 1 season and we are yet to see Strasbourg win a game. Worse yet for them, despite the draws keeping them off the foot of the table, every other side in the league have managed to win a game so far with even Brest and Ajaccio below them racking up a win each.
The winless start has meant the club’s only points so far have come in a recent run of four draws from their past six games, with 1-1 draws against Reims, Brest and Nantes and a goalless encounter with Clermont Foot. What’s more, a recent 2-1 loss to Montpellier means two losses for the club too, after also losing to Monaco 2-1 on the opening day.
As for Rennes, their goalscoring brilliance of last season has carried itself into this campaign with 14 goals from eight games. On the other hand, with two losses and three wins from the eight fixtures, they sit seven points adrift of third-placed Lorient already and one behind fifth-placed Monaco.
Rennes did manage to get a commendable draw away to the unbeaten Marseille last time out, but with a 2-2 draw with Fenerbahce in the Europa League just prior to this, the club have to go back to the start of September to witness their last win of the season. They did, however, smash Auxerre 5-0 that day.
