The penultimate fixture of the latest Ligue 1 gameweek is set to play out at Roazhon Park on Sunday, October 9th.

The clash in question will see a Stade Rennais outfit flying high in the midst of a fine recent stretch of results play host to Nantes.

Starting with the former, Rennes currently represent one of the French top-flight’s most in-form sides.

After kicking their campaign into gear in altogether hit-and-miss fashion, Les Rouges et Noirs have since remained unbeaten since late August, a run stemming a hefty eight fixtures across all competitions.

Five of these outings have culminated in victories, including a 5-0 drubbing of Auxerre and, most recently, a 2-1 downing of Dynamo Kyiv in the Europa League.

Bruno Genesio’s men, in turn, sit 6th in the Ligue 1 table, and joint-top of their group on the continent.

Nantes, on the other hand, have continued to stumble their way through what has proven a hugely disappointing 2022/23 season of late.

After bringing an end to a trophy drought spanning over two decades last time out, sealing a spot in Europe in the process, La Maison Jaune have since failed to kick on in any way, shape or form.

Their nine league outings to date have given way to just a solitary victory, to go along with four draws and four defeats.

The latest of the losses suffered by Antoine Kombouaré's troops, meanwhile, came in altogether concerning fashion, by a three-goal margin at AS Monaco in their return to action post-international break last weekend.

Such woes leave Nantes sitting in a lowly 17th, just two points clear of basement-dwelling Strasbourg.
