Rennes will be aiming to stay third in Ligue 1 this Saturday night when they meet with Toulouse down in 12th in what is the final set of fixtures before the break for the World Cup as 12 points separate these two clubs here.
Although it has been another sensational season for Rennes, they cannot move into second before the World Cup break, as they now trail Lens by five points and the league leaders, Paris Saint-Germain, by 10 points. On the other hand, with Marseille, Lorient, Moanco, Lyon and Nice all below them in the table, the club head into this game with a lot to shout about.
Just like last season, only PSG are outscoring Rennes with them now netting 29 times from 14 games. This has seen the third-placed Ligue 1 side rack up an impressive eight wins, and their two losses in the division so far is only bettered by those in the top two. A recent 1-1 draw with Lille, however, has brought Marseille in fourth and Monaco in fifth closer to them with just a point separating Rennes and those two.
As for Toulouse, their aim on the final weekend before the World Cup break is merely to jump into the top 10. They currently trail Clermont Foot in 10th by three points and have an inferior goals difference, but with the 10th-placed side meeting with second-placed Lens, there is a chance that Toulouse moves into the top half with a win here.
