Match preview

High-flying RC Lens are set to act as hosts, in one of two fixtures in line to play out in France’s top-flight on Saturday, October 15th.

This comes as Franck Haise’s troops prepare to welcome Montpellier to The Stade Bollaert-Delelis for a highly-anticipated clash.

Lens are in the midst of an altogether head-turning campaign to date.

Owing to a record of six wins and three draws from ten, Les Sang et Or sit in the dizzying heights of 4th in the Ligue 1 table, just two points adrift of a Champions League spot.

Hitman Florian Sotoca, meanwhile, has proven the star of the show, playing a direct hand in just shy of 50% of Lens’ 17 league goals thus far.

Sotoca, though, could do little last time out, as Lens slipped to a maiden defeat of the 2022/23 term.

This came as a solitary goal on the part of Jonathan David proved enough to condemn Haise and co. to a 1-0 loss at the hands of Lille, in the latest edition of the Derby du Nord.

All associated with Lens, though, will no doubt be confident in the club’s chances of getting things back on track this weekend.

This is largely owing to the dismal recent form of the upcoming visitors to Pas-de-Calais.

Montpellier have found positive results altogether difficult to come by of late, with a pair of back-to-back victories late in August - including a 7-0 drubbing of Brest - having since been followed by four defeats in five.

The latest of these came last Sunday, when goals from Breel Embolo and Myron Boadu culminated in Monaco departing The Stade de la Mosson with all three points.

We at 101, in turn, envision Saturday’s action playing out true to form, with Lens putting Montpellier to the sword in comfortable fashion.
