Match preview

Two sides separated by just two places in the Ligue 1 table are set to go head to head at the Allianz Riviera on Sunday, October 9th.

The clash in question will see an OGC Nice outfit in the midst of a major drop-off from last season play host to ES Troyes.

First, let’s take a look at the recent efforts of the former.

After narrowly missing out on a Champions League qualification spot in 2021/22, Nice, to this point in the new season, have failed to live up to expectations in a major way.

All told, Les Aiglons have secured wins in just two of their nine outings to date, slipping to defeat on no fewer than five occasions.

The latest of these came last weekend, when, in their return to action post-international break, Lucien Favre’s men were put to the sword by table-topping Paris Saint-Germain.

This made it three losses in four over the course of the last month, leaving Nice languishing just a point clear of the relegation scrap ahead of the weekend’s upcoming round of fixtures.

One potential area of improvement which would certainly go a long way towards addressing the recent woes of the Ligue 1 strugglers would be an uptick in production in front of goal, with Nice, remarkably, having found the net just six times across their nine fixtures thus far.

Hopeful of holding Les Aiglons at bay on Sunday afternoon, though, will be a Troyes in altogether more free-flowing form.

ESTAC have racked up a head-turning 10 goals in five outings dating back to late August.

The latest two of these came in their own return to the pitch following the international break, as a last-gasp equaliser from Jackson Porozo proved enough to clinch a share of the spoils at home to Reims.

Troyes, in turn, sit 11th in the Ligue 1 table, albeit, owing to the tight nature of things at present, just two points off Lyon in 7th.

We at 101 therefore envision a hard-fought affair playing out at the Allianz Riviera on Sunday, with Troyes, potentially owing to yet another goal on the part of top scorer Mama Balde, doing enough to emerge with a minimum of a point.
