Les Pailladins struggled at home at the end of last season picking up only three points from their last six Ligue 1 home matches of the 2021/22 season here at the Stade de la Mosson. They have also had a rough pre-season losing three in three. We are going to defy the form guide though and believe they get it right when a competitive ball is kicked. Therefore, 101 Great Goals’ prediction for this match is Montpellier 2-1 Troyes and is available at odds of 8/1.

Alternatively, you can bet on any Montpellier win at 11/10 against ESTAC at home on Sunday. At these odds, a £10 bet would return £21. Or, back any away win for Troyes at 23/10 here at the Stade de la Mosson. At these odds, a £10 bet would return £33. You can also find odds of 23/10 for any draw between Montpellier and Troyes on Sunday. At these odds, a £10 bet would return £33.

Or 13/8 to score at any time during Sunday’s game.

Match preview

The Paladins welcome Troyes to the Stade de la Mosson in Montpellier on Sunday for this Ligue 1 match.

Montpellier finished last Ligue 1 season in 13th place, 11 points ahead of 18th placed Saint-Étienne in the relegation play-offs zone. Les Pailladins come into this match on a run of nine league games without a win carried over from last season which includes their last league match of the season away to Angers. The final score of the match was 2-0.

Les Pailladins saw a lot of key players depart over the summer without raising any funds from transfer fees to replace them. Rémy Cabella is likely the biggest departure for them this summer. The 32 year old attacking midfielder has joined LOSC Lille on a free transfer. Florent Mollet, a 30 year old attacking midfielder, also leaves the club to join FC Schalke 04 with the £450,000 the only money they received from all their outgoings. Junior Sambia, Mihailo Ristic, Clément Vidal, and Ambroise Oyongo all leave the club on free transfers.

Wahbi Khazri and Arnaud Nordin are the big name attacking signings for them this summer. The pair arrive from relegated AS Saint-Étienne on free transfers. Théo Sainte-Luce, a 23 year old left-back, also arrives from Nîmes Olympique on a free transfer. While Falaye Sacko, a 27 year old right-back, and Faitout Maouassa, a 23 year old left-back, both arrive on season long loan deals.

Jordan Ferri is suspended for this match. Teji Savanier is also expected to be unavailable for this match. Elye Wahi is a slight doubt due to an injury for this match after missing Montpellier’s final warm up match against Crystal Palace last weekend. However, it was thought to be precautionary and he is expected to start here.

Troyes finished last Ligue 1 season in 15th place, six points ahead of 18th placed Saint-Étienne in the relegation play-offs zone. ESTAC come into this match on a run of five away league games without a win carried over from last season and shared the points in their last league match of the 2021/22 season away to Lorient. The final score of the match was 1-1.

Giulian Biancone is the biggest departure for them this summer. The 22 year old right-back has joined newly promoted Premier League side Nottingham Forest for £9.00m. Sávio is the most expensive signing using the money Biancone’s sale raised. The 18 year old right winger arrives from Clube Atlético Mineiro for £5.85m. Although, he has immediately been loaned out to Dutch side PSV.

Iké Ugbo, a 23 year old centre-forward, makes his loan deal of last season a permanent move from KRC Genk. Jackson Porozo, a 21 year old centre-back, also arrives from Boavista FC for £3.15m. As do Andreas Bruus, a 23 year old right-back from Bröndby, and Wilson Odobert, a 17 year old left winger from Paris Saint-Germain.

Troyes may be starting the season without a number of their key starters from the previous campaign. Adil Rami (thigh), Mama Balde (shoulder), Gauthier Gallon (back) and Karim Azamoum (knee) are all struggling to be fit for this match. Issa Kabore is also unavailable due to a suspension carried over from last season. Bar Azamoum, they were all starters for Troyes when fit last season.
