Lorient welcome Rennes to the Stade du Moustoir this Friday night to kick off another Ligue 1 weekend after a break for the French Cup round of 32 last time out as both sides are separated by two places in the top flight.

Lorient managed to edge past Ligue 2′s Bastia by the narrowest of margins last time out, defeating them on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Prior to this, Lorient smashed La Chataigneraie 6-0 in the round of 64.

Lorient have also drawn 2-2 with Monaco and lost to Marseille 3-1 away from home. Regis Le Bris sees his side now in seventh and with a gap of five points after nine wins on the board and five losses too.

As for Rennes, they are up into fifth after beating Paris Saint-Germain last time out to inflict just the second loss of the season for the Ligue 1 champions in all competitions.

Rennes did, however, lose 1-0 to Marseille in the last outing and also lost to Clermont Foot prior to their excellent win over PSG.

Bruno Génésio’s men are into the Europa Conference League spot in fifth and sit just five behind Marseille in third and they are only adrift of Monaco on goals scored - they are level on goals difference and points, so it currently comes down to goals scored after their 1-1 draw in August.
