Match preview

Two sides who have experienced completely contrasted starts to the latest Ligue 1 season will meet this weekend as Angers and Rennes clash at the Raymond Kopa Stadium with Angers aiming for just their third victory of the league campaign.

Just like last campaign where Rennes were in sensational goalscoring form with 82 scored in Ligue 1 (only Paris Saint-Germain netted more), the club are in a great positions right now. In fact, with 23 goals netted in the campaign so far, only PSG are outscoring them once more, with Rennes now having won six of their 11 games. It does put them eight points behind the league leaders PSG, but at the same time, they are only five adrift of second-placed Lorient.

Rennes have also been in excellent form in the Europa League so far, and they are coming off the back of beating Dynamo Kyiv twice, while beating Strasbourg, Nantes and Lyon around those two wins - this now means a five-game winning run for Rennes.

Angers, however, have let in the most goals in the league so far with 27, and this does not bode well for them against such an attacking side. The club have also scored just 13 of their own and won a joint-highest seven games already in Ligue 1.

Angers have also lost three in a row now since defeating Nice 1-0 away from home, as Marseille, Strasbourg and Toulouse have all beaten them.
