Two sides in the thick of the battle against the drop from Ligue 1 are primed to face off at the Stade Raymond Kopa on Sunday, October 9th.

The matchup at hand will see 15th-placed Angers play host to a Strasbourg outfit desperate to begin turning single-point hauls into three.

Up until recently, it was the former who looked most in trouble of the two, having managed to string together a paltry two points from their opening six fixtures of the campaign.

Such woes, however, were at least temporarily arrested upon Angers rattling off back-to-back downings of Montpellier and Nice, ahead of last month’s international break.

Granted, their return to action last weekend did see Les Noirs et Blancs brought back down to earth by means of a 3-0 defeat, but this, in defence of Gerald Baticle’s troops, came at the hands of a Marseille outfit looking primed to push champions Paris Saint-Germain all the way for the Ligue 1 title.

Turning attentions towards Angers’ upcoming opponents, Strasbourg have proven one of the more peculiar cases of the French top-flight season to date.

Despite their sitting 2nd from bottom of the division, a full six clubs have been condemned to defeat on more occasions than Les Bleu et Blanc.

This includes their impending hosts on Sunday afternoon.

Julian Stephan’s men have simply struggled time and time again to convert stalemate positions into winning ones.

In turn, across their nine outings thus far, Strasbourg have racked up five points, all as a result of draws.

It must too be noted, though, that no such hauls have come over the course of the last two gameweeks, with Sunday’s visitors to the Raymond Kopa, instead, fresh off consecutive defeats at the hands of Montpellier and Stade Rennais.

We at 101, as a result, predict that Angers will ultimately do enough to get the better of Strasbourg, on the back of a hard-fought 90 minutes this weekend.
