Match preview

Two sides in the midst of altogether disappointing campaigns in France’s top-flight are set to go head to head at The Stade Abbé-Deschamps on Sunday, October 16th.

The clash in question will see relegation-battling Auxerre play host to a Nice outfit too stuttering through the term.

First, let’s take a look at the recent endeavours of the former.

Auxerre, since securing a return to Ligue 1 courtesy of a 3rd-placed finish in France’s 2nd division in 2021/22, have found positive results altogether difficult to come by.

All told, Les Bleu et Blanc have taken to the pitch on ten occasions thus far, giving rise to just two wins, two draws and a hefty six defeats.

The most recent of the latter results came last weekend, when Jubal’s injury-time strike proved little more than a consolation en route to a 2-1 loss at the hands of Clermont.

And this, in turn, proved the straw that broke the camel’s back when it came to the place of Jean-Marc Furlan on the Auxerre bench.

With Sunday’s hosts in disarray, and yet to name a new head coach, upcoming opponents Nice will therefore have their sights set on taking full advantage of the situation on Sunday evening.

Les Aiglons themselves have suffered a serious dip in form to this point in the new season, sitting 13th after securing European football in impressive fashion last time out.

This comes owing to a haul of just 11 points from 10 outings, leaving Lucien Favre’s troops hovering precariously close to the drop zone as things stand.

Encouragingly from a Nice perspective, though, one of the club’s three wins across the Ligue 1 term did come at the last attempt, when Arsenal loanee Nicolas Pepe was amongst the goals en route to a 3-2 downing of Troyes.

We at 101, in turn, are backing Sunday’s visitors to make it two wins on the trot, in emerging from The Stade Abbé-Deschamps with all three points.
