Villarreal vs Real Sociedad betting tips: La Liga preview, predictions and odds

Bizarrely, five of their last seven meetings have witnessed away wins, two of which have gone Real Sociedad's way. La Real won at El Madrigal in 2018 and 2020, despite only winning two of their 14 previous visits.

Under 2.5 goals is 10/11.

Draw and both teams to score is 15/4.

Alexander Isak is 13/2 to break the deadlock and 21/10 to score anytime.

Match preview

The race for European places in heating up and these two clubs are firmly in the mix.

Real Sociedad are guaranteed to be in some sort of Europa competition next season, which one it is could be decided by this game.

On Thursday night, having only previously scored 12 goals at home all season, La Real ran riot, hammering Cádiz 3-0.

Alexander Sørloth opened the scoring before penalties from Adnan Januzaj and then Portu sealed the win, the latter bagging his first Liga goal of the season.

That was also a first win in five for Imanol Alguacil's side and it means they are guaranteed a European place.

Villarreal though are just three points behind after they also enjoyed an emphatic victory on Thursday.

El Submarino Amarillo demolished Rayo Vallecano 5-1 at Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas, equalling their biggest-ever top-flight away win.

Alfonso Pedraza scored twice with Juan Foyth, Paco Alcácer and Pau Torres also on target with Villarreal 4-1 up by half time.

So, Unai Emery's men have won three of their last five and 12 of their last 21 in La Liga.

This leaves Villarreal seventh, in the Europa Conference League place, but knowing they'll leapfrog Real Sociedad with a victory.

Who will win this crucial clash at Estadio de la Cerámica?

Villarreal team news

Villarreal's five-goal haul at Rayo was made even more impressive by the fact that they are without top-scorer Arnaut Danjuma and main striker Gerard Moreno due to injury.

So, Paco Alcácer, who scored on Thursday, will lead the attack alongside Samuel Chukwueze with Yeremy and Boulaye Dia other good options.

Alfonso Pedraza's two goals in midweek could see him keep his place at left-back, over Pervis Estupiñán.

Real Sociedad team news

La Real, usually anyway, also struggle for goals with star man Mikel Oyarzabal out-long term, as are Ander Barrenetxea and Carlos Fernández.

Alexander Isak will return up front after missing the Cádiz win due to suspension.
