Match preview

A mere 17 days after their meeting at Estadio de La Cartuja in the Copa del Rey Final, Real Betis and Valencia lock horns again.

It finished 1-1 after 120 minutes that night, Borja Iglesias opened the scoring with an emphatic header, before Hugo Duro's impudent chip equalised for los Che.

In the penalty shootout, teenager Yunus Musah was the only man to miss from 12 yards, meaning Betis claimed the cup, their first silverware for 17 years.

In a much lower-stakes game, who will win this time?

As Copa del Rey winners, los Verdiblancos are guaranteed, at least, Europa League qualification, but were aiming for an even bigger prize.

However, their Champions League dreams were derailed further on Saturday night, going down 2-1 to Barcelona at Estadio Benito Villamarín.

This means Manuel Pellegrini's side are now winless in four league matches, so have now slipped six points adrift of Atlético in fourth.

Thus, Betis need to win this one, or their top four aspirations could be over by the end of this midweek round.

Valencia meanwhile, having lost in the final, are now out of contention for European qualification.

José Bordalás' side are also without a win in six La Liga games, following Saturday's uneventful goalless draw with Athletic Club at San Mamés.

As a result, los Murciélagos remain tenth, nine points below Villarreal who occupy the final European position.

Given that their head-to-head record is identical, both won 2-0 at home, the tiebreaker would be goal difference, but Villarreal's is superior by +25.

Thus, even if los Che won their last three, they're not going to be returning to UEFA competition next season.

Will Betis beat Valencia again, or can the Bats exact some revenge at Mestalla?

Valencia team news

21 year old Giorgi Mamardashvili has shone in goal this season, looking for his tenth clean sheet in, what will be, just his 21st appearance.

At left-back, José Luis Gayà will return from a one-match ban, coming back in for teenager Jesús Vázquez.

However, Hugo Guillamón's red card off the bench on Saturday means he is suspended for this one.

Maxi Gómez is fit again so will lead the line; Gonçalo Guedes could return alongside.

Real Betis team news

Héctor Bellerín missed Saturday's match with an injury, meaning Youssouf Sabaly could continue at right-back.

William Carvalho will be hoping to return to midfield, displacing either Guido Rodríguez or Andrés Guardado.

Up front, Borja Iglesias will continue to get the nod, chosen over Willian José.
