Match preview

Just like buses, Rayo Vallecano had waited 124 days to win in La Liga, but then two victories come along at once.

Ten days ago, Sergi Guardiola's scrappy goal just before half time saw los Franjirrojos beat Espanyol 1-0 at RCDE Stadium.

Then, three days later, still in Catalonia, Rayo caused a massive shock by beating Barcelona 1-0 at Camp Nou, with Álvaro García the night's only scorer.

Before this double-header north, Andoni Iraola's side were winless 12 La Liga games, dropping from fourth to 14th in this period.

Nevertheless, los Vallecanos are now 11th, with 40 points to their name, and any growing relegation fears have now been alleviated.

Back in Madrid, can Rayo Vallecano now add to their eight home victories so far?

Real Sociedad meanwhile need the points if they're to secure European football next season.

Coincidentally, La Real’s last fixture was also against Barcelona, and also produced a 1-0 away win, this going in Barça’s favour in San Sebastián.

Before this defeat, Imanol Alguacil’s side were unbeaten in five, only losing to Athletic Club and Real Madrid in the league since 18 December.

So, los Txuri-Urdin are currently sixth, two points below Real Betis and three clear of Villarreal.

A top seven finish would be a massive achievement for La Real, who've never qualified for Europe in three successive seasons before.

This one isn't likely to produce a plethora of goals, but will either land the decisive blow and leave Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas victorious?

Rayo Vallecano team news

Radamel Falcao was back on Rayo's bench at Camp Nou so will be hoping for his first minutes since 26 February here.

Randy Nteka actually led the line against Barcelona, but in-form Sergi Guardiola is likely to return for this one.

Real Sociedad team news

SAN SEBASTIAN, SPAIN - NOVEMBER 29: Mikel Oyarzabal of Real Sociedad celebrates after scoring goal during the La Liga Santader match between Real Sociedad and Villarreal CF at Estadio Anoeta on November 29, 2020 in San Sebastian, Spain. (Photo by Juan Manuel Serrano Arce/Getty Images)

No side 14th or higher in La Liga has scored less goals than Real Sociedad's 32.

A key problem is that Mikel Oyarzabal, Carlos Fernández and Ander Barrenetxea are all out long-term while Portu hasn't scored in La Liga for over a year.

So, Alexander Isak, Alexander Sørloth and Adnan Januzaj will continue to be tasked with getting the goals La Real need.

With Nacho Monreal injured, Diego Rico will continue at left-back.
