Match preview
MADRID, SPAIN – JUNE 13: Isaac Palazon celebrates with team mates after scoring their side’s first goal during the La Liga Smartbank Playoff Final 1st Leg match between Rayo Vallecano and Girona FC at Campo de Futbol de Vallecas on June 13, 2021 in Madrid, Spain. After heartbreak in the Copa del Rey on Thursday night, can Rayo Vallecano bounce back a mere 63 hours later?
In midweek, los Franjirrojos were looking to become the first team for 52 years to lose the reach the final having lost the semi-final first leg at home.
Given this, Rayo were big underdogs going to Estadio Benito Villamarín but, with ten minutes to go, mission impossible was on.
Substitute Bebé scored an outrageous free kick from miles out, making it 2-2 on aggregate, meaning extra time was on the cards.
However, in the second minute of added on time, Betis restored their advantage, equalising on the night, so it’ll be they who head to the Cartuja for next month’s final.
This was Los Vallecanos’ first semi-final in any major competition for four decades and they came agonisingly close to a first-ever final appearance.
Back in La Liga, Andoni Iraola’s side are in horrendous form.
Rayo Vallecano were in the top four on Christmas Day but have since takes just one point from seven games, including five successive defeats.
Last weekend’s 1-0 reverse against Real Madrid at Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas leaves Rayo 12th and sliding down the table.
Can Cádiz capitalise?
El Submarino Amarillo took on Granada at Los Cármenes on Monday night and, despite playing against ten men for an hour, could only draw 0-0.
This means Sergio has only lost one of six matches since taking over as Head Coach but has also only won once, drawing three on the bounce.
Having won just three matches all season, Cádiz remain in the relegation zone, four points adrift of Granada and safety.
Will the home side secure a vital victory at Estadio Ramón de Carranza?
Cádiz team news

Sergio has switched to a back three for Cádiz’s last two games so, having drawn both, it’ll be interesting to see if he sticks with this.
This has possibly be chosen to get all three of Álvaro Negredo, Lucas Pérez and Choco Lozano in the side but they’re still struggling to create and score goals.
Rubén Sobrino, who came off the bench on Monday, may also feel he warrants a start.

Andoni Iraola meanwhile, after an energy sapping and ultimately disappointing night on Thursday, must decide which players are ready to go again.
Bebé’s cameo off the bench, in which he scored an unbelievable free-kick, could warrant him a start here.
Elsewhere, Radamel Falcao did not feature against Betis so is therefore a doubt for this game too.
This’ll see Sergi Guardiola continue up front, unless Mamadou Sylla is a surprise inclusion.
