Can Athletic Club Bilbao continue their push for European qualification?

Last weekend, the Lions' hopes of a top seven finish suffered a set-back as they were beaten 1-0 by Real Betis at Estadio Benito Villamarín.

This means Marcelino's men have alternated between winning and losing in their last six, also suffering defeats away at Mallorca and Barcelona.

But, at home, Athletic have won all three La Liga games in 2022, defeating Espanyol, Real Sociedad in the derby and then Levante.

They've also knocked Barcelona and Real Madrid out the Copa del Rey in front of their own supporters since the turn of the year.

In the table, Athletic Club are eighth, five points below Villarreal in that, potentially, all-important seventh spot.

If they are to catch them, it's going to be built on home wins, making a victory in this Friday night clash ultra-important.

Getafe meanwhile are just trying to keep their heads above water at the other end of the table.

Azulones held Valencia to a goalless draw last Saturday night in a game former boss, now Valencia manager, José Bordalás would've enjoyed.

Overall, Quique Sánchez Flores' side are now winless in five, winning just two of nine fixture since beating Real Madrid on 2 January.

So, Getafe kick off in 15th, just four points clear of danger.

Will Athletic Club's winning run at San Mamés continue?

Athletic Bilbao team news

Iñaki Williams will continue up front having now feature in 223 successive La Liga games, last missing one on 17 April 2016 against Málaga.

At the back though, their best centre-back, Iñigo Martínez, is currently injured.

This'll see Dani Vivian continue alongside Yeray Álvarez with Unai Núñez the alternative.

Iker Muniain will be looking to continue his good form out-wide, supporting Williams and Nico Serrano in attack.

Getafe team news

Undoubtedly, Quique Sánchez Flores' star man is centre-forward Enes Ünal.

The Turkish international has scored 11 goals in La Liga this season, 42% of his team total, despite not scoring until 28 October.

Elsewhere, this team are so much more solid when Nemanja Maksimović and Mauro Arambarri are the midfield axis.

Carles Aleñá joined that duo last weekend, trying to add a bit more on the ball quality to Getafe's play.

The 5-3-2 used last weekend worked in the sense that Getafe didn't concede but they didn't score either, so it'll be interesting to see if they stick with it.
