An incredibly sad story was broken by Argentine media outlet Clarin regarding a young footballer in the 5th tier of Argentine football.
21 year old Emanuel Ortega of San Martin de Burzaco was declared dead this morning, two weeks after suffering a skull fracture during their match against Juventud Unida.
Given a light push, the off balance Ortega could not stop his momentum and went head first into the concrete wall which, rather unbelievably, is only one metre away from the pitch.
Ortega had emergency surgery on his double skull fracture last Wednesday but the sad news was today confirmed by staff at the medical centre.

In 2012 the young Argentine footballer wrote a heartfelt Facebook status in which he foretold his own death.

“Perhaps I won’t ever play football professionally,” he wrote. “Maybe I will, or maybe as an amateur, but when I go for each ball I am going to die, when my legs say STOP, my heart says CONTINUE.
“The difference between me and professionals is that when my boots break, I don’t change them, I spent all night tidying them up and gluing them back together so I can play again because it is what I love.
“Football is my LIFE, not only a past-time, it is what makes me forget everything else, and I will give my life for it.
“The day that I can’t play anymore, that is where my life ends.”
