Adelaide United 3 – North Queensland Fury 3 (A-League, August 28, 2009) Robbie Fowler gave the Fury a fifth minute lead volleying home a Robinson cross. Adelaide were soon level through Lucas Pantelis, and the hosts then took the lead 10 minutes later when Pantelis turned provider and Lloyd Owusu headed home the midfielder’s cross. The Fury then turned the match on its head late on, Dyron Daal pulled North Queensland level in the 83rd minute and Fred Aguis’ pass allowed Daniel McBreen to score from close range with time running out. But the drama was not over as Pantelis tucked home a late penalty.
Perth Glory 2 – Melbourne Victory 1 (A-League, August 28, 2009) Branko Jelic opened the scoring in the fifth minute by scrambling home a free-kick. Melbourne levelled four minutes later when Archie Thompson converted Allsop’s cross at the second attempt. Jelic netted what proved to be the winner nine minutes after the interval.
