The return of the MLS: Kenny Cooper scores from inside his own half despite Dallas falling to the Fire; Toronto edge the Wizards in a 5-goal thriller

FC Dallas 1 – Chicago Fire 3 (MLS, March 21, 2009) After just nine minutes of the new season Dallas’ Kenny Cooper scored what may prove to be the goal of the season with a sublime strike that was launched from inside his own half. But despite the quality of the strike Dallas could not hold on, with justin Mapp, Brian McBride (penalty) and a sweet free-kick from Cuauhtemoc Blanco giving Chicago the opening day win.

Kansas City Wizards 2 – Toronto FC 3 (MLS, March 21, 2009) Captain Jim Brennan gave Toronto the lead at the break with striker Amado Guevara wrapping up the points with a second half brace for the Canadians.
