Puerto Rico dump Galaxy out the CONCACAF Champions League; Santos & Marathon advance; Revs knock Puebla out of Superliga on pens

Puerto Rico Islanders 1 – LA Galaxy 2 (Agg. 5-3) (CONCACAF Champions League, August 4, 2010) David Foley gave the Islanders a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute with a penalty, but Islanders defender Marco Velez scored an own-goal in the 37th to make it 1-1. Sean Franklin scored for Los Angeles in the 84th but it proved mere consolation for the MLS franchise.

Santos Laguna 5 – San Juan Jabloteh 0 (Agg. 6-0) (CONCACAF Champions League, August 4, 2010) Jose Reyes found the net twice, and Darwin Quintero, Rodolfo Salinas and Arnulfo Gonzalez also scored as Santos cruised through to the group stages.

Marathon 1 – Tauro 2 (Agg. 4-2) (CONCACAF Champions League, August 4, 2010) Claudio Labarinas scored in the 24th minute for Marathon, but Luis Renteria scored two late goals in the second half to seal the victory.

New England Revolution 1 – Puebla 1 (Pens. 5-3) (Superliga, August 4, 2010) Kenny Mansally’s second half oipener for the Revs was almost immediately wiped out by Andres Olivera’s equaliser for the Mexicans. Matt Ries was the Revs hero in the shootout as he saved Edgar Lugo’s spot kick.
