Niigata hold second in the J-League after hitting Kashiwa for four; Urawa stay third after edging Yamagata in a 5-goal thriller

Kashiwa Reysol 0 – Albirex Niigata 4 (J-League, July 4, 2009) Niigata kept up the pressure at the top of the table thrashing Kashiwa Reysol, with Brazilian striker Pedro Junior bagged a hat-trick and Marcio Richardes chipped in with the other.

Montedio Yamagata 2 – Urawa Red Diamonds 3 (J-League, July 4, 2009) Tatsuya Furuhashi gave Yamagata the lead in the 24th minute, but Brazilian Edmilson scored an equaliser before the break. Takahara put Urawa in front three minutes into the second half when he got behind two Montedio defenders and beat Yamagata keeper Kenta Shimizu. Kohei Miyazaki’s header 10 minutes from time brought Montedio level, only for Takahara to pounce three minutes later, nodding Marcus Tulio Tanaka’s cross past Shimizu.

Vissel Kobe 0 – FC Tokyo 2 (J-League, July 4, 2009) Naohiro Ishikawa scored his league-leading ninth goal of the season in FC Tokyo’s win over Vissel Kobe.
