Kashima beat Tokyo to top J-League, Urawa edge Grampus Eight; Seattle Sounders lose in the MLS

FC Tokyo 1 – Kashima Antlers 2 (J-League, April 12, 2009) Marquinhos put the visitors ahead with only three minutes gone as the Brazilian forward beautifully curled in a shot from outside the box. Kashima’s teenage forward Yuya Osako then extended the lead in the 17th minute when he cut into the box from the left, beat two defenders and fired past the Tokyo keeper. Tokyo halved the deficit in the 41st minute when forward Shingo Akamine headed home Hanyu’s cross from close range.

Nagoya Grampus Eight 0 – Urawa Red Diamonds 1 (J-League, April 12, 2009) 17-year-old Genki Haraguchi came off the bench in the 23rd minute and scored the first goal of his career shortly before the break with a fine right-foot strike from the edge of the box.

Seattle Sounders 0 – KC Wizards 1 (MLS, April 11, 2009) Seattle goalkeeper Kasey Keller was sent off just before the half hour mark and that proved decisive as Davy Arnaud drilled a 35-yard winner in the 80th minute for the Wizards. This was Seattle’s first ever defeat in the MLS.
