Johnsen treble steers Shimizu to 6-3 victory at Shonan; Kawasaki edge Sendai 3-2; Gamba & Sanfrecce win

Shonan Bellmare 3 – Shimizu S-Pulse 6 (J-League, August 1, 2010) Frode Johnsen opened the scoring when he beat goalkeeper Ryota Tsuzuki and Akihiro Hyodo doubled the lead with a 25-yard drive before Shinji Okazaki scrambled home the third. Johnsen netted the fourth in the 26th minute before Yuya Nakamura and Emerson reduced the deficit for Shonan shortly before the break. The Norwegian striker completed his treble six minutes into the second period and Jungo Fujimoto’s chip three minutes later made it 6-2. Emerson grabbed his second and Shonan’s third four minutes from the end.

Kawasaki Frontale 3 – Vegalta Sendai 2 (J-League, August 1, 2010) Kawasaki Frontale climbed to fourth as they came from two goals down to edge Vegalta Sendai 3-2. Kunimutsu Sekiguchi and Fernandinho gave the visitors a two-goal lead but Juninho reduced the arrears in the 40th minute. Masaru Kurotsu then drew Kawasaki level on the hour mark before Hiroyuki Taniguchi struck the winner six minutes from time.

Gamba Osaka 1 – Yamagata 0 (J-League, August 1, 2010) Hideo Hashimoto’s first half curler proved decisive for Gamba.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima 3 – Kyoto Sanga 0 (J-League, August 1, 2010) Kyoto remain bottom of the table following a 3-0 defeat at Sanfrecce Hiroshima with Hisato Sato netting a double for the home side.
