Newcastle Jets 0 – Nagoya Grampus Eight 1 (Asian Champions League, April 22, 2009) After a tight first half, Nagoya took the lead in the 57th minute through Ogawa Yoshizumi. Newcastle’s Sasho Petrovski came off the bench to earn a penalty in the 77th minute only to see his spot kicked saved by Nagoya skipper Narazaki Seigo.

Esteghlal 1 – Umm Salal 1 (Asian Champions League, April 22, 2009) Arash Borhani gave the Iranians the lead just before the break with a brave diving header, which was cancelled out by Saud Ghanem’s chip over the advancing keeper 20 minutes from time.

Suwon Bluewings 2 – Shanghai Shenhua 1 (Asian Champions League, April 22, 2009) Bulgarian Yanko Valkanov gave Shanghai an early lead but two goals in the space of three minutes just before the break by Lee Sang-ho and Bae Ki-jong put the South Koreans in control.

Kashima Antlers 5 – Singapore AF 0 (Asian Champions League, April 22, 2009) Shinzo Koroki grabbed a brace while Takuya Nozawa, Mitsuo Ogasawara and Yuya Osako also found the back of the net.


Cruz Azul 0 – Atlante 2 (CONCACAF Champions League Final first-leg, April 22, 2009) Atlante have one hand on the crown after Fernando Navarro opened the scoring in the 17th minute and Christian Bermudez added the second in the 24th.
