Goals from Australia & Japan

Gold Coast United 2 – Perth Glory 1 (A-League, October 18, 2009) The hosts took the lead when Jason Culina’s free-kick deflected off defender Scott Neville and into the net in the 13th minute. Todd Howarth equalised 10 minutes into the second half when he latched onto a pass from Victor Sikora before sending an effort beyond the goalkeeper. But A-League top-scorer Shane Smeltz restored the advantage for Gold Coast just a minute later.

Newcastle Jets 1 – Melbourne Victory 3 (A-League, October 18, 2009)

JEF United Chiba 1 – Kyoto Sanga 1 (J-League, October 18, 2009) Chiba, who are just one place above the bottom of the table, went ahead in the 35th minute thanks to a fine volley from Tatsunori Arai and, after failing to kill the game, Diego levelled for Kyoto with three minutes remaining.
