New York Red Bulls 1 – Columbus Crew 3 (MLS Cup Final, November 23, 2008) Alejandro Moreno gave the Crew the lead just after the half hour mark. New York equalised through forward John Wolyniec in the 51st minute. But the Crew rallied, and second half strikes by Chad Marshall and Frankie Hejduk gave them their first MLS triumph after having been the leading side in the regular season. Wellington Phoenix 2 – Newcastle Jets 0 (A-League, November 23, 2008) Two goals in the final 11 minutes to striker Shane Smeltz and Troy Hearfield settled the match for the Phoenix after the Jets played out a large chunk of the match with only 9-men after Joel Griffiths and Mark Milligan were sent off.
Queensland Roar 4 – Perth Glory 1 (A-League, November 23, 2008) Sergio van Dijk scored on a penalty in the first minute of added time and Tahj Minniecon had another two minutes later to give the Roar a big boost heading into the break. Charlie Miller and Mitch Nichols scored second-half goals for the Roar, while Jamie Hartwell, in the 57th minute, scored Perth’s onlyÂ goal.
