Chivas beat America in the derby to stay top in Mexico; Toluca tear apart Estudiantes; Jaguares stun Santos; Monterrey shut down Pumas; Atlas level late

Chivas 1 – America 0 (Mexican Premier Division, April 4, 2010) Omar Arellano scored a first-half goal and goalkeeper Luis Michel made two key saves as Chivas edged archrival America 1-0 on Sunday night to remain atop the Mexican Clausura championship.

Toluca 5 – Estudiantes 0 (Mexican Premier Division, April 4, 2010) Carlos Esquivel (12), Osvaldo Gonzalez (32), Antonio Naelson (33), Antonio Rios (54) and Diego Novaretti (58) scored for Toluca, who notched their third straight win to take over second place.

Santos 0 – Jaguares 3 (Mexican Premier Division, April 4, 2010) Colombian Jackson Martinez put the Jaguars ahead in the 29th, Uriel Alvarez had an own goal in the 28th and Brazilian Danilo Veron sealed the win in the 83rd for Chiapas.

Atlas 3 – Atlante 3 (Mexican Premiera Division, April 3, 2010) Johan Fano and Jesus Paganoni exchanged goals in the first half as the game was even 1-1 at the break. Nestor Vidrio found Ricardo Jimenez inside the box in the 62nd minute to give Atlas a lead as Jimenez redirected the cross from inside the six-yard box and somehow beat Federico Vilar. But Fano headed home a cross from Christian Bermudez to level terms. Santiago Solari knifed through four Atlas defenders in the 85th minute and gave his side what appeared to be a game-winner. Torres Nilo answered as he buried a header off a cross from Carlos Gutierrez in stoppage time.

San Luis 0 – Tigres 3 (Mexican Premiera Division, April 3, 2010) Lucas Lobos and Francisco “Kikin” Fonseca scored first-half goals and Jesus Molina added a third goal early in the second half for the final margin.

Morelia 1 – Puebla 1 (Mexican Premiera Division, April 3, 2010) Miguel Sabah and Herculez Gomez exchanged goals as Morelia blew yet another lead at home.

Monterrey 1 – Pumas 0 (Mexican Premiera Division, April 3, 2010) Walter Ayovi scored on the penalty kick midway through the second half and Monterrey beat Pumas to gain control of the Group 2 table.

Indios 1 – Pachuca 2 (Mexican Premiera Division, April 3, 2010) Damian Manso’s 82nd-minute goal helped Pachuca put away a pesky already-relegated Indios side.

Cruz Azul 1 – Queretaro 0 (Mexican Premiera Division, April 3, 2010) Christian Gimenez scored as Cruz Azul held on for a 1-0 win over Queretaro.
