Aloisi at the double as Sydney edge Perth in 5-goal thriller; Phoenix win in the Gold Coast

Sydney FC 3 – Perth Glory 2 (A-League, February 7, 2010) A 24th minute penalty to captain Steve Corica put the home side in the early lead before Wayne Srhoj struck deep into first-half injury time to level the scores. But then came the talking point of the match when John Aloisi scored a 49th minute goal which almost didn’t stand after television replays showed that the ball escaped through a hole in side netting. Sydney’s hopes looked to be dashed after striker Daniel McBreen had equalised for Perth in the 79th minute but Aloisi steered a header home the winner from Stephan Keller’s cross in the dying minutes.

Gold Coast United 0 – Wellington Phoenix 1 (A-League, February 7, 2010) Ahead 1-0 at halftime courtesy of a Paul Ifill penalty, the Phoenix showed composure under pressure and moved into fourth place on the table with just one round remaining.
