AFC Champions League: Adelaide edge Sanfrecce in 5-goal thriller; Pohang sink Shandong

Changchun Yatai 1 – Jeonbuk Motors 2 (AFC Champions League, March 24, 2010) Substitute Du Zhenyu put the hosts ahead in the 64th minute with a left-footed drive that was cancelled out by Choi Tae-uk 10 minutes later when the striker clipped the ball home following a goalmouth scramble. Lee Dong-gook scored the winner for the K-League champions five minutes before the final whistle, curling home Seo Jung-jin’s pass inside the box.

Adelaide United 3 – Sanfrecce Hiroshima 2 (AFC Champions League, March 24, 2010) Travis Dodd had given the home side an early lead before Sanfrecce defender Ilian Stoyanov saw red for a professional foul in the 32nd minute when he brought down Matthew Leckie. But Sanfrecce fought back to take the lead with second-half goals from Kazuyuki Morisaki and Issei Takayanagi only for Robert Cornthwaite to make amends for an earlier error with a 77th minute header before Cassio’s deflected free-kick snatched the points.

Pohang Steelers 1 – Shandong Luneng 0 (AFC Champions League, March 24, 2010) A Noh Byung-joon free-kick special was enough to give Pohang Steelers a valuable 1-0 win over Shandong.

Singapore Armed Forces 2 – Gamba Osaka 4 (AFC Champions League, March 23, 2010) Shoki Hirai scored a hat-trick as Gamba Osaka recorded its first win of the season with a hard-fought win over 10-man Singapore Armed Forces.
