Norway 4 – Scotland 0 (2010 World Cup qualifier, August 12, 2009) Scotland’s hopes died in the 34th minute in Olso, Caldwell received his marching orders for a second yellow card and John Arne Riise wellied a deflected free-kick into the net. On the stroke of halftime Blackburn’s Morten Gamst Pedersen cracked home a second to leave the Tartan Army needing a miracle. The miracle unsurprisingly never arrived, and on the hour rumoured Chelsea target Erik Huseklepp tapped home from close range after John Carew saw his shot rebound off both posts. At the death Gamst Pedersen curled a wonderful free-kick into the top corner.

Azerbaijan 0 – Germany 2 (2010 World Cup qualifier, August 12, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) A sweet left-footed curler from Bastien Schweinsteiger handed Germany a 12th minute lead at Azerbaijan. Ten minutes into the second half Germany doubled their advantage when Miroslav Klose scored a rebound after Gomez had hit the bar.

Faroe Islands 0 – France 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, August 12, 2009) The French had to wait until four minutes before the break to score in the Faroe Islands, Toulouse striker Andre-Pierre Gignac spun in the box and fired a low shot in the corner.

Belarus 1 – Croatia 3 (2010 World Cup qualifier, August 12, 2009) Ivica Olic scored from a Niko Kranjcar corner as Croatia moved ahead in Belarus. Croatia continued to dominate and doubled their lead when Eduardo da Silva took a pass from Darijo Srna and fired the ball in. Belarus gave themselves hope with a goal by Dimitry Verkhotsov in the 81st minute, but Olic scored again from a counter attack two minutes later.

Mexico 2 – United States 1 (2010 World Cup qualifier, August 12, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) Charlies Davies put the USA in front but ten minutes later Israel Castro equalised with a rocket of shot. Miguel Sabah scored the winner with eight minutes remaining.
