Mallorca 1 – Real Madrid 4 (La Liga, May 5, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) Mallorca, who have been terrific at home all season and remain firmly in the Champions League shake-up, took the lead against title hopefuls Real when Aritz Aduriz nodded home a loose corner after 14 minutes. Cristiano Ronaldo again came to Real’s rescue to pull the Madridstas level, C-Ron collecting a ball over the ball before lobbing the keeper from an acute angle. Eleven minutes into the second half Cristiano Ronaldo bagged his second to turn the match on it’s head as he peeled off to the back post, controlled and slipped a shot past the keeper. Ronaldo’s one-man show continued in the 79th minute as the Galactico brilliantly squeezed past three defenders before sliding home his hat-trick goal and keep Los Blancos in the title race. A fantastic lob from Gonzalo Higuain wrapped up the points for Real with eight minutes remaining
Atletico Madrid 3 – Valladolid 1 (La Liga, May 5, 2010) Atletico struck in the 41st minute against Valladolid when Juanito converted a right wing cross with a back post header. Slack Valladolid defending in the 67th minute allowed Jurado to muscle his way into the box and slam home Atleti’s second. Diego Forlan killed the match for the Europa League finalists in the 73rd when the forward punished the visitors for failing to clear their lines from a corner. Valladolid did net a consolation in the 78th minute when a counter-attack was finished by Jonathan Sesma.
Racing Santander 1 – Sevilla 5 (La Liga, May 5, 2010) A second minute goal from Alvaro Negredo and a 20th minute Freddie Kanoute penalty put Sevilla in control of proceedings at Racing santander. Sevilla continued to romp to victory after the break as Jesus Navas and Diego Capel put the visitors 4-up. Mohammed Tchite gave Racing something to cheer on the hour when he drilled a shot into the corner, but Sevilla restored their 4-goal cushion when Negredo bagged a late fifth.
Athletic Bilbao 1 – Malaga 1 (La Liga, May 5, 2010) Gaizka Toquero fired Bilbao in front after just four minutes, but Duda drew Malaga level on 19 minutes.
Osasuna 3 – Deportivo La Coruna 1 (La Liga, May 5, 2010) Osasuna beat Deportivo with goals from Javier Camunas, Walter Pandiani and Juanfran.
Zaragoza 1 – Espanyol 0 (La Liga, May 5, 2010) Promoted Real Zaragoza took a giant stride towards safety with a 1-0 win over Espanyol with Adrian Colungaâ€™s penalty on 78 minutes sealing a crucial win for Zaragoza who move five points clear of the drop zone.
