La Liga: Valencia wins in Malaga to remain fourth; Five-star Villarreal shine in Tenerife

Deportivo La Coruna 1 – Sporting Gijon 1 (La Liga, November 1, 2009) Sporting had to come from behind after Niouoi Lassad gave the hosts a first half lead, but Diego Castro levelled things shortly after the interval for the visitors.

Malaga 0 – Valencia 1 (La Liga, November 1, 2009) Centre-back David Navarro jumped highest at the back post to head in a Pablo Hernandez cross for the winning goal on 68 minutes as Valencia moved a point behind third-placed Sevilla.

Villarreal 5 – Tenerife 0 (La Liga, November 1, 2009) A Joseba Llorente braced sandwiched efforts from Giuseppe Rossi and Robert Pires, before Cani rounded off the win and further eased the pressure on coach Ernesto Valverde.

Zaragoza 2 – Almeria 1 (La Liga, November 1, 2009) Angel Lafita started and (luckily) finished a move to fire Zaragoza in the lead over Almeria, and four minutes later Ruben Martin Pulido doubled the hosts’ advantage from a corner. Juan Manuel Ortiz pulled the Andalusians back into the match with a tidy finish before the break.

Mallorca 1 – Racing Santander 0 (La Liga, November 1, 2009) On a bog of a pitch, the only goal of the game arrived after 18 minutes as Pierre Webo smacked a shot into the near post.

Espanyol 1 – Valladolid 1 (La Liga, November 1, 2009) An Espanyol breakaway in the 50th minute was converted by Luis Garcia, but just when it looked like the hosts would win Haris Medunjanin netted a 94th minute equaliser for Valladolid.
