River snatch a point at Gimnasia; Higuain scores again for leaders Godoy Cruz; Neymar inspires Santos past Corinthians; Fernandinho bags four for Sao Paulo

Gimnasia La Plata 1 – River Plate 1 (Clausura, February 28, 2010) Gustavo Canales snatched a late equaliser in stoppage time for River Plate against Gimnasia, to cancel out Marcos Perez’s opener in the 8th minute. The point moved Gimnasia to ninth while River gained a position to 16th.

Newell’s Old Boys 2 – Banfield 1 (Clausura, February 28, 2010) Cristian Nunez and Antonio Boghossian hit second-half goals to give Newell’s a victory over reigning champion Banfield. Ruben Ramirez pulled a goal back in the 78th minute for Banfield.

Argentinos Juniors 1 – Godoy Cruz 2 (Clausura, February 28, 2010) Federico Higuain opened the scoring for Godoy with a back-post volley in the 7th minute and Carlos Sanchez extended the lead in the 21st. Santiago Gentiletti pulled a goal back for Argentinos in the 32nd minute, but Godoy held the lead to move to the top of the table behind Colon on goal difference after six matches.

San Lorenzo 1 – Tigre 0 (Clausura, February 28, 2010) Emiliano Alfaro scored in the 83rd minute to give San Lorenzo a win over Tigre.

Lanus 3 – Atletico Tucuman 0 (Clausura, February 28, 2010) Goals from Sebastian Blanco in the 40th minute, Diego Lagos in the 53rd and Santiago Salcedo in the 68th fired Lanus to victory over bottom club Atletico Tucuman.


Santos 2 – Corinthians 1 (Campeonato Paulista, February 28, 2010) Neymar bounced back from a missed a penalty kick in the seventh minute with a goal from just inside the area in the 33rd, turning and firing a low shot past Corinthians goalkeeper Felipe. 18-year-old Neymar then set up teammate Andre with a perfect through ball for Santos’ second goal in the 60th. Defending champion Corinthians got on the board with striker Dentinho in the 69th, finding the net after his first shot struck the post. Corinthians substitute right back Moacir was red carded for a hard foul in the 72nd, and veteran left back Roberto Carlos was sent off for diving in the 75th. Both players already had a yellow card.
