River lose and Boca draw as the Argetine powerhouses struggle; Independiente edge Estudiantes in 5-goal thriller; Neymar stars as Santos see of Rio Clara; Torres bags stunning winner for Pachuca

Colon 1 – River Plate 0 (Clausura, February 14, 2010) Colon’s Esteban Fuertes scored from the penalty spot in the 44th minute to claim a narrow victory over River Plate.

Boca Juniors 0 – Atletico Tucuman 0 (Clausura, February 14, 2010) Boca played a scoreless draw against bottom club Atletico Tucuman. Christian Chavez hit the crossbar for Boca in the 84th minute, but Atletico Tucuman held on for a point to aid its fight against relegation.

Independiente 3 – Estudiantes 2 (Clausura, February 14, 2010) Nestor Silvera gave Independiente the lead against Estudiantes, applying the finish to Federico Mancuello’s pass in the 44th minute. Dario Gandin gave the home side a two-goal lead with a left-footed strike in the 57th. Estudiantes hit back with goals from Maximiliano Nunez in the 59th and Jeronimo Neumann in the 72nd, but Independiente took all three points when Ignacio Piatti negotiated the ball past two defenders in the box to score the winner in the 79th.

Santos 2 – Rio Claro 1 (Campeonato Paulista, February 14, 2010) Rio Claro, lying second to last in the standings, opened the scoring with a close-range goal by striker Jackson in the 39th minute. Andre equalised in the 79th after Rio Claro goalkeeper Sidney failed to stop a Neymar shot, and Giovanni gave Santos the win with an 88th minute header after being set up by Neymar.


Puebla 3 – Pachuca 5 (Primera Division Clausura, February 14, 2010) In a ding-dong battle, the hosts took a 26th minute lead when Alvaro Gonzalez opened with a header, only for Ulises Mendivil to level soon after. Damian Alvarez scored in the 32nd for Pachuca, but the match was all-square at the break as Carlos Ruiz levelled with a header. Marcelo Palau restored Puebla’s advantage after the break with a a stunning 25-yard free-kick, but back came the visitors once more as Mendivil levelled the match 3-all. Francisco Torres won the match with five minutes remaining cracking home a brilliant 25-yard free-kick, while Dario Cvitanich scored in injury time to add some gloss the the scoreline.

Monterrey 2 – Tigres 1 (Primera Division Clausura, February 14, 2010) Aldo de Nigris scored for Monterrey in the 23rd minute with a shot in the area that was set up from a corner. Argentine Neri Cardozo made it 2-0 in the 39th before Jesus Molina got one back for Tigres. Monterrey’s win gives it 10 points on the standings.
