Leaders Independiente lose at Gimnasia; Banfield beat San Lorenzo; Castillejos lifts Lanus in injury time; River’s woes continue with Newells defeat

Chacarita Juniors 1 – Lanus 2 (Clausura, April 7, 2010) Federico Vismara got Chacarita on the scoreboard early on, and after both sides had Sebastian Blanco and Lisandro Lopez sent off for fighting it looked like the match would simply peter out. But an incredible injury time double from Castillejos turned the match in Lanus’ favour.

Gimnasia La Plata 2 – Independiente 1 (Clausura, April 7, 2010) Marco Perez scored midway through each half to help Gimnasia to a 2-1 victory over Independiente, whose midfielder Federico Mancuello hit an equaliser five minutes before halftime.

River Plate 0 – Newell’s Old Boys 1 (Clausura, April 7, 2010)  Struggling giants River Plate lost 1-0 at home to Newell’s Old Boys who scored from a lucky rebound six minutes into the second half through Paraguayan Jorge Achucarro, who was falling over as he lobbed keeper Daniel Vega. River have lost their last four matches without scoring and they have the third worst attack in the division with eight goals in 13 games.

Banfield 2 – San Lorenzo 0 (Clausura, April 7, 2010) Title holders Banfield beat San Lorenzo 2-0 to hand their new coach Sebastian Mendez, appointed after Diego Simeone resigned at the weekend, a losing start. Roberto Battion put Banfield ahead after 12 minutes, heading home Walter Erviti’s corner, and Ruben Ramirez converted a penalty two minutes before halftime.
