Emelec 2 – Zamora FC 1 (Agg. 3-1) (Copa Sudamericana, August 27, 2009) Zamora went ahead with a free-kick scored by Giovanni Perez in the 25th minute to level the scores on aggregate. Matters worsened for Emelec when they lost midfielder Jose Luis Quinonez to a second yellow card. Emelec scored in the 70th minute through Franco Mendoza and then sealed their win when Hernan Peirone scored at the death.
