Ten-man Celtic go top; Templeton keeps Hearts beating nicely

Celtic 1 – Motherwell 0 (SPL, December 29, 2010) (Longer highlights) Paddy McCourt’s skilful run and shot gave the home side the lead midway through the first half. The winger had earlier headed wide with Emilio Izaguirre and Joe Ledley also off-target during a concerted period of Celtic pressure. Motherwell rarely threatened but found themselves a man up in the closing stages after Scott Brown’s dismissal.

St. Mirren 0 – Hearts 2 (SPL, December 29, 2010) David Templeton’s trickery took him into the penalty box and he fired home from 14 yards after 63 minutes. The winger was then brought down by John Potter, who was sent off before Kevin Kyle scored from the spot. The victory keeps Hearts six points clear of the pack in third place, while St Mirren remain six points clear of bottom side Hamilton in 10th place.
