Schalke 1 – Cologne 0 (Bundesliga, March 6, 2009) Schalke threw their hat into the ring in the most open Bundesliga title race in many years, as a first half goal from Jermaine Jones, after some flamboyant play in the build up, proved enough to beat Cologne and lift the Blues up to sixth in the table.

Sparta 0 – Willem II 1 (Eredivisie, March 6, 2009) Willem II won the six-point at the foot of the Dutch league thanks to George Mourad’s 74th minute strike. The win snapped a six game losing streak for the visitors, while Sparta continue to nosedive with just one league win in their last ten.

Galatasaray 2 – Bursaspor 1 (Super Lig, March 6, 2009) The hosts were gifted the lead after 10 minutes when Bursaspor’s Volkan Bekiroglu put through his own net while Aydin Yilmaz double Gala’s lead after 31 minutes. Ibrahim Ozturk pulled one back for Bursaspor after the break but it was not enough to prevent Gala moving to within two points of leaders Sivasspor and Trabzonspor, albeit having played one more game.

O’Brien put Vinny Faherty through for the second on 49 minutes and then secured the win on 52 with his second of the night, a fantastic, powerful drive that gave Gary Rogers in the Pat’s goal no chance.
