Oscar Cardozo downs Liverpool with two penalties; Zamora & Duff on target for Fulham

Fulham 2 – Wolfsburg 1 (Europa League, April 1, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) Bobby Zamora’s incredible season continued as he put Fulham in front at home to Wolfsburg in the 59th minute with a fine curling effort. Zamora set up Damien Duff for Fulham’s second just four minutes after the opener. An Alexander Madlung header in the 89th minute left the tie delicately poised.

Benfica 2 – Liverpool 1 (Europa League, April 1, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) Dan Agger scored with a brilliant flicked finish from a Gerrard free-kick after just nine minutes at Benfica. With Liverpool down to ten men after Ryan Babel had been sent off, Oscar Cardozo equalised from the penalty spot after an Insua foul on Aimar on the hour. A second penalty from the ice cool Oscar Cardozo on 79, after Carragher had handled, gave Benfica a slender lead to take to Anfield.

Valencia 2 – Atletico Madrid 2 (Europa League, April 1, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) Diego Forlan put Atletico in front on 59, Manuel Fernandes equalised eight minutes later with a terrific long range effort. Antonio Lopez secured another away goal for Atletico before David Villa tied the match with eight minutes to go. (Fernandes, Lopez and Villa goals can be seen on this video.)

Hamburg 2 – Standard Liege 1 (Europa League, April 1, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) Dieudonne Mbokani headed home from a corner to continue Standard Liege’s great away form in the competiotion and stun hosts Hamburg. Mladen Petric equalised from the penalty spot on 43. Ruud van Nistelrooy swept Hamburg into the lead seconds before the break.


Brondby 2 – Silkeborg 2 (SAS Ligaen, April 1, 2010)


Corinthians 2 – Cerro Porteno 1 (Copa Libertadores, April 1, 2010) Ronaldo bundled home a loose ball in the box to give the Brazilian side the lead in the 36th minute. Captain Chicao curled a free-kick into the top corner just past the hour while Corinthians were on the back foot in the final stages after midfielder Julio dos Santos pulled one back in the 79th minute.

Emelec 0 – Deportivo Quito 1 (Copa Libertadores, April 1, 2010) Forward Ivan Hurtado converted a last-minute penalty against 10-man Emelec after a foul by right-back Mariano Mina.

Once Caldas 1 – Nacional 0 (Copa Libertadores, April 1, 2010) An early goal by John Jairo Valencia earned the Colombians victory.
