Bastia were perfectly submissive opponents for AS Monaco on Friday night.
The home side were hoping for visitors that wouldn’t cause a ruckus ahead of their big Champions League clash against Arsenal on Tuesday evening.
Certainly the Stade Louis II is not accustomed to ruckus. The largest attendance recorded at the 18,000 capacity stadium this season has been 13,960 (against Lorient).
While they couldn’t welcome a record crowd, Monaco did record their biggest win of the season with this 3-0 triumph.
Teenager Anthony Martial led the line admirably and bagged himself a brace either side of a Matheus Carvalho goal.
Their task of winning while preserving energy for their subsequent European tie was made significantly easier by the fact that Bastia were reduced to nine men by the 72nd minute, Giovanni Sio’s dismissal following a first half red card shown to Drissa Diakite.
