Portland beat Seattle 2-1; New York edge DC United 3-2

Portland Timbers 2 – Seattle Sounders 1 (MLS, June 24, 2012) Kris Boyd scored his fifth goal of the season and David Horst converted a header as the Timbers earned a much-needed 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders. Eddie Johnson got one back for the Sounders just before the hour mark, but the Timbers held out to record their four victory of the season. Both teams finished with 10 men after Fredy Montero and Lovel Palmer received their marching orders in injury time for Seattle and Portland respectively.

New York Red Bulls 3 – DC United 2 (MLS, June 24, 2012) New York trailed as early as the first minute at Red Bull Arena, after Chris Pontius headed the visitors 1-0 ahead. The Red Bulls levelled through Brandon Barklage’s shot from inside the area on 19 minutes. And Barklage made it 2-1 to the home side when he netted again two minutes into first-half injury. New York completed the turnaround 10 minutes into the second half, when Jan Gunnar Solli struck to put his side 3-1 ahead. Pontius bagged his second to get DC United back to within a goal in the 65th minute, slotting home from inside the box after collecting Maicon Santos’ through-ball.
