Tigres win the Liga MX
The Premier League may have eschewed the Christmas Day tradition of playing football on December 25, but there were some games on Sunday.
Wesley Sneijder and Galatasaray impressed in Turkey, whilst in Mexico the league season came to an end with a bang.
America and Tigres had played out a 1-1 draw late last week in the first leg of the Liga MX final.
5 men sent off!
On Sunday night, Tigres and America played out a 0-0 draw in the opening 90 minutes.
On 90 minutes, Jorge Torres was sent off for Tigres, after picking up two yellow cards.
Five minutes later Edson Alvarez made it 1-0 to America with the opening goal of the second leg. However, on 102 minutes, Rubens Sambueza was sent off for America.
Gignac wins the Mexican title again
Then came the mass brawl that saw three sent off: Paolo Goltz and Ventura Alvarado for America and Jose Rivas for Tigres.
Alvarado was on the bench and did not come on, so the game was played out 9v9 and it worked in Tigres’ favour as they equalised through Jesus Duenas on 119.
Tigres won the penalty shoot-out 3-0. America missed all their penalties. Andre Pierre Gignac claimed the opening penalty for Tigres as he won his second successive Mexico title.
