Jose Mourinho confirms his Specialness as Milito’s brace against Bayern in the Champions League final lifts Inter Milan to a historic treble

One of the highlights in the build-up to the final came during Jose Mourinho’s press conference on Friday. In front of a packed house of journalists, one particular hack brown-nosed the Special One in comical fashion when he handed him a crown. Rather than just accept the gesture, Mourinho played up to his adoring public by taking off his Inter jacket and exchanging it with the lucky journalist. The footage can be seen here.

Inter Milan 2 – Bayern Munich 0 (Champions League Final, May 22, 2010) (Longer highlights here, extended highlights here.) When the match kicked off it was Bayern who created the better chances, Arjen Robben zipped down the right hand side in the ninth minute and saw Thomas Muller connect with his low cross and narrowly miss the target. There was a touching moment on the half hour when Mourinho and Robben embraced on the sidelines. Bayern had the bulk of possession without forging too many clear cut opportunities, and the Germans were punished in the 36th minute when Milito cushioned a header from Cesar’s long punt to Sneijder, the Dutchman played an inch-perfect pass back to the Argentine and Diego Milito lifted his shot past Butt to score. After defending like champions after taking the lead Inter went 2-up in the 70th minute, Diego Milito made a chump out of the flat-footed Van Buyton and the Argentine complete his terrific personal season with his second of the final.
