Roma go top of Serie A after Atalanta win; Catania hold stuttering Milan; Samp down Genoa in derby; Ghezzal double lifts Siena; Lazio beat Bologna 3-2

Sampdoria 1 – Genoa 0 (Serie A, April 11, 2010) The only goal of the derby came from a backpost header from Antonio Cassano midway through the first half.

Roma 2 – Atalanta 1 (Serie A, April 11, 2010) Poor goalkeeping for the Atalanta custodian allowed Mirko Vucinic’s tame strike to squirm into the net after 12 minutes. Marco Cassetti header home the Giallorossi’s second as the Romans looked to leapfrog Inter into top spot, but a tidy finish from Simone Tiribocchi in the 53rd minute pulled the visitors back into the game.

AC Milan 2 – Catania 2 (Serie A, April 11, 2010) After scoring a brace last weekend, Maxi Lopez’s fine goalscoring run for Catania continued early doors at AC Milan as the blonde-haired assassin fired a low shot into the far corner. And Lopez was involved as the Sicilians bagged a second before the break, the forward crossing for Adrian Ricchiuti to power home a header and leave the Rossoneri with it all to do. A close range header from Marco Borriello pulled Milan back into contention at the start of the second period, and Borriello brought Milan back on an even-keel when he turned well to dispatch the ball into the net from Abate’s cross.

Juventus 1 – Cagliari 0 (Serie A, April 11, 2010) Juventus struck 10 minutes from the interval at home to Cagliari when a flick on in the box allowed Giorgio Chiellini to loop a header over the keeper and into the net.

Siena 3 – Bari 2 (Serie A, April 11, 2010) Lowly Siena conceded after 12 minutes at home to Bari when Emanuel Rivas struck, but the hosts where soon level pegging when Abdelkader Ghezzal’s excellent form of late continued with a 17th minute equaliser. Bari got their noses back in front when Jose Ignacio Castillo was fortunate to see a ricochet end up in the net, but just after the hour mark Ghezzal equalised for Siena. The side from Tuscany eventually won the match when Aleandro Rosi found the Bari net on 66 minutes.

Livorno 0 – Udinese 2 (Serie A, April 11, 2010) Relegation-threatened Livorno had a poor start to their match with Udinese when Alexis Sanchez struck inside the opening ten minutes, and Antonio Di Natale added the second on 35 minutes.

Bologna 2 – Lazio 3 (Serie A, April 11, 2010) A terrific strike from Roberto Guana from 20-yards blasted Bologna into the lead over Lazio. Four minutes later Daniele Portanova doubled the home side’s lead, nut just before halftime Stefano Mauri pulled one back for the Aquile to set up an exciting second half. Three minutes after the hour mark Andre Dias made it 2-2 to Lazio and five minutes later on 68 minutes Tommaso Rocchi completed a sensational comeback with the third.

Palermo 3 – Chievo 1 (Serie A, April 11, 2010) Palermo maintained their grip on fourth place with a 3-1 win over Chievo in Sicily. Marcos had put the visitors ahead early on but Palermo battled back to level on the half-hour mark through Javier Pastore. Fabrizio Miccoli then took charge with goals either side of the break to secure a win for the home side.
