South American Championships: Walter scores a screamer for Brazil, but the Samba Boys & Argentina are held to draws

Brazil 1 – Paraguay 1 (U20 South American Championships, January 21, 2009) Brazil took an early lead thanks to Walter’s fantastic 25-yard shot that ripped into the net. But Paraguay levelled 12 minutes from time, Hernan Perez managed to fire his shot through his covering defender’s legs to beat the keeper at his near post.

Uruguay 2 – Bolivia 0 (U20 South American Championships, January 21, 2009) After a goalless first half, the Uruguayans opened the scoring seven minutes after the break through Nicolas Lodeiro. Lodeiro added a second to earn his side their first three points of the tournament.

Venezuela 1 – Argentina 1 (U20 South American Championships, January 20, 2009) Venezuela, the hosts of the tournament, were awarded a penalty in the 2nd minute, Salomon Rondon stepped up to the spot, and although his effort was saved by Luis Ojeda he scored the rebound. Argentina hit back in the 23rd minute with low shot into the far corner from Eduardo Salvio.

Peru 1 – Ecuador 2 (U20 South American Championships, January 20, 2009) Joao Rojas put Ecuador ahead early doors, heading home after 3 minutes. Joao Rojas doubled the lead with his second header of the match before Peru pulled a goal back six minutes later when Juan Jose Barros converted from the spot.
