RVP bags a brace as Holland beat Mexico; Valbuena scores on debut as France beat Costa Rica; Turkey sink Northern Irish; Uruguay thump Israel

Holland 2 – Mexico 1 (International Friendly, May 26, 2010) After a succession of early chances, Holland took the lead through Robin van Persie who produced a fine right footed finish from an excellent ball in by Van der Vaart. Four minutes before half time Robin van Persie doubled Holland’s lead with a left footed volley from an excellent cross field ball by the impressive Afellay. (First half highlights here.) With 16 minutes remaining new Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez pulled a goal back with a header from a Torres cross.

France 2 – Costa Rica 1 (International Friendly, May 26, 2010 Carlos Hernandez gave Costa Rica a surprise lead in the 12th minute with a low drive from outside the box. Franck Ribery equalised ten minutes later with a deflected effort after Gourcuff had played him in. Substitute Mathieu Valbuena found a way through from long range as Raymond Domenech’s side deservedly emerged victorious.

Turkey 2 – Northern Ireland 0 (International Friendly, May 26, 2010) Second half goals from Sercan Yildirim and Semih Senturk gave Turkey a comfortable win over an under strength Northern Ireland side.

Estonia 0 – Croatia 0 (International Friendly, May 26, 2010) Despite fielding a much stronger side on paper, Bilic’s men couldn’t find a way through Tarmo Ruutli’s gritty side.

Uruguay 4 – Israel 1 (International Friendly, May 26, 2010) Uruguay showed their attacking qualities once again with a convincing win over Israel managed by Luis Fernandez for the first time. Diego Forlan opened the scoring only for Lior Rafaelov to equalise on the half hour. Alvaro Pereira restored Uruguay’s lead at the break and a brace of second half tap-ins from Sebastian Abreu secured the victory.
