Italy make light of Northern Ireland in a friendly; South Africa pick up a rare win over Poland; Goals from the Toulon Tournament

Italy 3 – Northern Ireland 0 (International Friendly, June 6, 2009) Northern Ireland held Italy at bay until the 20th minute when Giuseppe Rossi cracked a shot into the near post to hand the Azzurri the advantage. (First half highlights here.) The Italians second arrived in the 53rd minute after slick play in midfield, Pazzini slipped an inch-perfect pass into Pasquale Foggia who evaded the Irish defenders before producing a deft finish to steer the ball home. The Azzurri’s night was completed when Sergio Pellisier, who ended the season in fabulous form with Chievo, claimed a third in the 72nd minute.

South Africa 1 – Poland 0 (International Friendly, June 6, 2009) Bafana Bafana broke the deadlock after just six minutes, the Polish defensive was breached allowing Thembinkosi Fanteni to tap home from two yards.
